Obama Condoms - What Next?

Even though the Obama condoms have been on the market for a few months now, they continue to be in ever greater demand since the election of Barack Obama as our next president.

WHY?

Are more people wanting to practice safe sex?

Are more people taking responsibility for their actions?

Are more people wanting to emulate a "first in American history?"

Is Barack Obama a role model?

Whatever the reason, I say, "hip hip hooray!"

On November 7, Doborah Kotz of U.S. News & World Report published an article entitled, "7 Things Obama's Win could Mean for Women's Health."

The first thing one states:

"1. No more federal funds for abstinence-only education. Two years ago Obama told a conservative Christian audience that abstinence-only education was not enough to prevent teen pregnancy and that he "respectfully but unequivocally" disagrees with those who oppose condom distribution to prevent HIV transmission, according to the reproductive health blog Reality Check. He's also an original co-sponsor of the Prevention First Act, which mandates that all federal sex-education programs be medically accurate and include information about contraception. That legislation could be resurrected in the new Congress."

U.s. News & World Report also states that , "The rate of adolescent pregnancy has steadily declined since reaching an all-time high in 1990, mostly due to the increased use of condoms."

Yes, the ads for the condoms are a marketing tactic; however, if the ads bring increased awareness of the issues surrounding teen pregnancy, the spread of AIDS and other infectious diseases, I'm all for it!
